I had never been to Mexico before this, but I figured I would see what all the hype was about since I know so many people who have been there before and loved it. And let me just say, this was one of my favorite vacations so far; I have never been to a country where everyone was so nice and accommodating! Being from chilly New England, March was the perfect time to get away to a warm, tropical place (plus I missed the huge snowstorm...yay!). My vacation was booked through Apple Vacations, which made the trip a breeze because literally everything was taken care of! Upon arriving in Mexico, there was a shuttle already waiting to bring my dad and I to our hotel. We stayed in Dreams Sands Cancún, all inclusive. I have never stayed anywhere that was all inclusive, so this was an absolute treat. I mean, even room service was included so you know I had room service everyday! Ha We arrived in the evening on our first day, so we just spent the evening exploring the resort and our dining options. Day two was a day full of total relaxation! We spent the day walking around Cancún and relaxing by the beach. I even went to the spa for a couple hours where I got the best massage...hello heaven! I ended the evening watching the sunset on the beach, which was absolutely gorgeous. After a day of relaxation, I was ready to explore what Mexico had to offer. First stop, Xcaret Park. Guys, if you are going to do anything adventurous while in Cancún, go here! Xcaret is full of endless activities. A couple of my favorite activities were swimming down the underground river and going on the SeaTrek tour where you get to walk the ocean floor wearing a helmet while little tropical fish are swimming all around you. How awesome is that?! And even if you aren't adventurous, you can still enjoy the park while sitting in a hammock by the beach. With a huge variety of activities, you can spend the whole day at this park and still not see everything it has to offer. Xcaret is the ultimate paradise and is a must on your Cancún vacation! After a day full of adventure, I was ready for a little Mayan culture and history. Being one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, Chichén Itzá, offers a look into the past and was definitely on my to do list. Just a few hours outside of Cancún, Chichén Itzá is more than a pyramid, it's an entire city so put on your walking shoes and make sure to wear sunscreen and a hat! If you take the Chichén Itzá tour through AMSTAR, you will also get to make a couple of extra stops along the way. On the way to Chichén Itzá, we stopped in Pisté where we got to do a little cultural shopping. After visiting the beautiful Chichén Itzá, we went back to Pisté for a delicious, cultural lunch that was included with our tour. After lunch, and also included in the tour, is a stop at Ik Kil Cenote. A cenote is a sinkhole and Mexico is full of them so it is quite amazing to see! I would recommend visiting one when there aren't too many people around. If you thought that was already a lot included in one tour, think again, because you get to drive through the beautiful, architectural city of Valladolid on the way back to your hotel. One thing I loved about Mexico is the endless effort the staff gave to make sure everyone's experience is nothing less than amazing. A lot of people are tempted to stay right in Cancún, but I highly encourage anyone who's visiting to see what Mexico has to offer. It is much more than a party scene. Take the time to book some excursions, do something adventurous, and learn about the rich history. I had an amazing time in Mexico and I can't wait to visit again!
